Cooling System

Float Image

The engine’s cooling system includes the radiator, thermostat, water pump, and coolant. The thermostat controls coolant flow to maintain optimal engine temperature. A stuck-open thermostat makes the engine run cooler, reducing fuel efficiency and heater performance. A stuck-closed thermostat causes overheating, risking engine damage. Pull over and call for help if the temperature gauge is high.

The engine’s cooling system manages heat with a radiator, thermostat, water pump, and coolant. The thermostat remains closed until the engine reaches about 195°F (90°C), allowing coolant circulation for optimal temperature. A thermostat stuck open causes inefficient operation and can damage the catalytic converter. A stuck-closed thermostat prevents coolant flow, leading to overheating and possible engine damage. If the temperature gauge shows high or a warning light activates, stop safely and seek assistance immediately to prevent severe engine issues.
