Water Pump

Float Image

The water pump consists of an aluminum housing, an impeller, impeller shaft, pulley, and bearings. Both the pulley and the impeller are connected to the impeller shaft. The bearings are also situated on the shaft. The water pump is normally driven by a belt. This turns the impeller and it circulates coolant throughout the engine.

The water pump circulates coolant between the radiator and engine, driven by a timing or serpentine belt. A broken belt leads to overheating. Over time, worn seals can cause leaks, and acidic coolant or plastic impellers can impair performance, potentially causing the engine to overheat.
