Brake pads wear over time, and thin rotors can overheat, reducing braking efficiency. Efficient braking requires adequate rotor thickness to dissipate heat effectively.

The friction between the brake pad and the disc brake can result in the rotor becoming worn over time. When grooves develop in the rotor, brakes become much more likely to squeal when they are applied. When pads are replaced and the disc is found to be grooved, the disc should be replaced.
